Not one of them random. The waiting queue runs through hard filters first — language, age band and gender preference. Then a soft score ranks the survivors by interest overlap and reputation. Both layers run on the server — we never expose your soft score to anyone, including you. hard filters— must pass Language Exact match. en ↔ en, es ↔ es. No partial credit. Age band Declared teen (13–17) never pairs with declared adult (18+). Undeclared matches either. Gender preference Optional. Pairs honour both sides' selected partner gender. soft signals— rank survivors Interest overlap Jaccard similarity over interest sets — small bonus per shared tag. Reputation proximity 0–1 hidden score. We pair like with like to keep quality predictable. bot fallback ## If we can't find a human, we say so. After about 30 seconds with no human match, we offer an AI companion. It's always disclosed — with a labeled chip in the chat header, a different status colour, and a Next button that ends the chat any time and starts a new match search, with no priority for a human.
