# Talk to strangers online, one at a time

Tap Start chatting and SafeMeet matches you with one person. There is no list of people to browse and no profile to read first: you meet by saying hello.

## How a chat starts

You open SafeMeet and tap Start chatting. That gives you a guest session, with no signup, email, phone number or card, and matches you with one person. You can set a language first: once you have, you are paired only with people whose language is the same, or who have not set one yet. There are 15, listed on the [language pages](https://safemeet.now/chat).

If no human match arrives in time, you may be matched with an AI companion. It is labeled as AI from the moment the chat starts, and so is every message it sends. Tap Next to end that chat and search again.

## You can always leave

Skips are free and unlimited, and you can end any chat at any time. Skipping a chat does not count against you. A conversation that is not working is a reason to move on, not a reason to stay polite for another ten minutes.

## How to open a conversation

Start with something specific rather than “hi”: where you are in the day, something you are reading, a question you would actually like answered. Ask one thing at a time and give the other person room to answer. Most chats that go well do so because someone was curious, not because someone was clever.

If the chat goes quiet, that is fine. Either of you can leave without explaining.

## What to keep to yourself

Do not share anything you would not want a stranger to have: a full name, an address, a school or workplace, a phone number or a social handle. SafeMeet replaces a delivered email address, link, phone number, @handle or wallet address with a placeholder, but it matches patterns, not meaning, so a detail written another way can get past it.

If a conversation makes you uncomfortable, use Panic in the chat header: it ends the chat and files a report. Block sits beside it, and once a chat has ended you can report it from your inbox. An AI reads the report; the [report guide](https://safemeet.now/guides/what-happens-when-you-report-someone) says what follows.

## Who you are matched with

SafeMeet is for ages 13 and up, and age is self-declared, not verified. We never match two people who have declared different age groups, and the same rule is checked again before each message is delivered. Someone who has not declared an age can still match with anyone. Every message is checked before delivery whatever age anyone declared; the [age guide](https://safemeet.now/guides/how-safemeet-handles-age) has the detail.

## Questions about talking to strangers

### Is it safe to talk to strangers online?

No chat is free of risk. What lowers it is what happens before a message reaches you and what you do yourself. On SafeMeet every message is checked before it is delivered, you can leave a chat at any time, and you should keep personal details to yourself.

### Do I need an account?

No. Tap Start chatting and you get a guest session: no signup, no email, no phone number and no card. Signing in with Google or Apple is optional and keeps your identity across devices. Either way, every message is checked before it's delivered, and you can end any chat at any time.

### What if nobody's online?

If no human match arrives in time, you may be matched with an AI companion. It's labeled — always, every message. You can tap Next at any time to end that chat and start a new match search. It's an ordinary search with no priority, so if no one is free you may be matched with the AI companion again.

### Is SafeMeet free?

Yes. SafeMeet is $0, free for now while we grow. There's no card, no email and no trial clock: open a tab and start. Paid plans may come later; safety will never be paywalled, and any pricing change comes with 30 days notice. We don't run ads and we don't sell data.
