changelog

What changed,
and when.

The changes to SafeMeet you can see, newest first. Each one says what is different for you, in plain words, and the day it reached users.

October 2026

Masked session replays in the chat app

To find where people get stuck, the chat app now records a small sample of sessions as masked replays. All text on screen, including your messages and the other person's, and everything you type is hidden, images are blanked, and no replay is recorded if your browser sends Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track. The privacy policy has the details.

Undo an accidental Next

Tapping Next at the top of a chat now shows a "Chat ended · Undo" message for 3 seconds. Tap Undo and you stay in the same chat; do nothing and the chat ends. While the message is up, the message box says "Tap Undo to keep chatting".

Deleting your account also removes your notification registration

When you delete your account, we now also ask our notification provider to remove your push-notification registration. If that provider can't be reached, your deletion still goes through.

Docs search keeps your place

On the SafeMeet Internals docs, closing the search box now puts keyboard focus back on the button that opened it, so keyboard and screen-reader users keep their place on the page.

An RSS feed for the guides

The guides are now published as an RSS feed at safemeet.now/rss.xml, so a feed reader can tell you when a new one appears.

Voice and video chat, answered

The "Is anonymous chat safe?" guide now has a section on anonymous voice and video chat, and a short FAQ. SafeMeet itself is text chat with images, with no voice or video.

Join the community on Discord

There is now a SafeMeet community Discord server. The invite is in the footer of this site, in its mobile menu, on the support page and in the profile menu inside the app.

Contact details are hidden from the person you are chatting with

If a message you send contains an email address, a link, a phone number, an @handle or a crypto wallet address, the other person sees a placeholder instead, and you see a note that personal info was hidden. The message is still delivered, and it doesn't count as a strike against you. It matches common patterns, so it doesn't catch everything; a street address, for example, is not hidden.

How reputation is counted

Reputation only affects who you are matched with, and nobody sees the score. It counts strikes, upheld reports and repeated flagged messages. Skipping a chat and outages on our side never count against anyone, and when an appeal is accepted, the reports it contested stop counting.

Two new guides: reporting someone, and phone numbers

"What happens when you report someone" and "Does SafeMeet hide your phone number?" each give the short answer first, then explain it in sections with their own FAQ.

Openers for a quiet new chat

A new chat with another person now offers three tappable openers. Tapping one only fills in the message box; you still press Send. They are in English, so they show when your chat language is English or not set.

Language pages open in their own language

Each of the 15 language pages under /chat now opens with a short welcome in that language, with the English version shown beneath it, and answers six questions of its own.

The inbox fits your phone screen

On a phone, the inbox now fits the visible screen, so the browser's toolbar no longer covers the message box.

September 2026

An image we could not check says so

If we can't check an image, it isn't delivered, and your own chat now shows "Not delivered: we couldn't check this image, so it wasn't sent."

The waiting screen says what happens when nobody is free

While you wait for a match, the screen now says that if nobody is free after 30 seconds, SafeMeet's AI companion steps in, and that it is always labeled as AI.

A published crisis protocol

The crisis protocol page explains what SafeMeet does when someone says they are thinking of self-harm: crisis resources are shown to them privately, and disclosing is never punished.

Child safety standards

A child safety standards page now says what is prohibited, how to report it inside the app, and who to contact.

August 2026

SafeMeet Internals docs

New field notes at safemeet.now/docs describe how moderation, the report and sanction rules, bots and the architecture behave, and why.

Chat pages for 15 languages

There is now a page for each of the 15 languages SafeMeet supports, explaining how the language filter works: once you set a language, you are paired only with people whose language is the same, or who have not set one.
