Random chat with strangers, and how the match is made
Random chat on SafeMeet means you do not pick who you talk to. Tap Start chatting and SafeMeet pairs you with one person, from whoever else is waiting, after it has ruled out the pairings that should not happen.

How a random match is made
You open SafeMeet and tap Start chatting. That gives you a guest session, with no signup, email, phone number or card, and puts you in the queue. When another person is waiting too, the two of you are paired into one conversation. It is one-to-one: a match is a private chat between two people, never a group room.
“Random” here means you do not choose. There is no list of people to browse, no profile to read first, no username to look up and no follower count.
What is ruled out first
Before anyone is picked, pairings that should not happen are dropped. A person you blocked, or who blocked you, is not paired with you again, and neither is someone you are already chatting with. Optional preferences you save in your match settings, such as who you would like to chat with or a preferred age range, narrow the pool too. They only apply to people who have shared that detail.
Language is an exact-match filter for people who have set one: two people who have both set a language are never paired across languages, and someone who has not set one can be matched with people of any language. There are 15 to choose from, on the language pages.
Declared age groups are kept apart. SafeMeet is for ages 13 and up, age is self-declared, not confirmed, and two people who have declared different groups are never paired. The same rule is checked again before each message is delivered. Someone who has not declared an age can be matched with anyone, so the rule is only as strong as what people tell us. The age guide has the detail.
Random, but not a coin flip
Among the people who survive those filters, the pick is not a draw from a hat. A shared interest you have saved counts in favor of a pairing, and so does how long someone has already been waiting. Someone you chatted with in the past week counts against it: they are ranked lower, not ruled out, so a repeat is possible when few people are waiting.
Interests are optional and you can ignore them entirely. The details of the ranking are not a setting you control, and nothing in it is a promise about who you will get. The how it works page walks through the same steps with an animation.
When nobody is free, and when you want out
If no human match arrives in time, you may be matched with an AI companion. It is labeled as AI from the moment the chat starts, and so is every message it sends, and the waiting screen tells you this before it happens. Tap Next to end that chat and search again; it is an ordinary search with no priority, so you may be matched with the companion again if no one is free.
Leaving a chat is free and unlimited, and you can end any chat at any time. If you start a long run of new searches in a short while, SafeMeet may ask you to wait a moment before the next one. Every message is checked before it is delivered, and in a chat with a person, Panic and Block sit in the chat header. The safety page lists what the checks still miss.
Questions about random chat
How does random chat work on SafeMeet?
You tap Start chatting and join the queue. SafeMeet looks at the people waiting, drops the pairings that should not happen, picks a partner from those left, and opens a one-to-one chat. You do not choose who it is.
Can I choose who I talk to?
No. There is no list of people, no profile to read and no way to search for a particular person. The most you can do is narrow it: set a language, save interests or other optional match preferences, and block someone you do not want to meet again.
What if nobody's online?
If no human match arrives in time, you may be matched with an AI companion. It's labeled — always, every message. You can tap Next at any time to end that chat and start a new match search. It's an ordinary search with no priority, so if no one is free you may be matched with the AI companion again.
Can I get matched with the same stranger twice?
Not if you blocked them or they blocked you. Someone you chatted with in the past week is ranked lower rather than ruled out, so a repeat is possible when few people are waiting.
