why

Why SafeMeet exists

The gap we noticed

In November 2023, Omegle shut down after 14 years. Its founder wrote that operating it was “no longer sustainable, financially nor psychologically.” For millions of people who used it to talk to strangers, it was gone.

Meanwhile, AI companions offered conversation with a model instead of a person. That's not the same thing.

We wanted a product that gave you both — real strangers, and enforced safety. Not “hope for the best” safety, but mechanically enforced, fail-closed safety that checks every message before delivery: an instant filter first, then AI moderation for anything the filter lets through.

SafeMeet is our attempt to fill that gap.

What we won't do

We've explicitly decided against these, and we want you to know that:

  • Require signup to chat — guest access is a feature, not a gap.
  • Run ads or behavioral targeting — your attention is not our product.
  • Sell chat data to train AI models — your conversations are yours.
  • Disguise AI as human — bot companions are always disclosed.
  • Growth-hack with push notifications — a notification only ever tells you about a new match or a new message in your own chat.
  • Add social features (followers, profiles, public feeds) — SafeMeet is for 1:1 private chat.
  • Optimize for engagement over safety — if those conflict, safety wins.

Who's behind this

SafeMeet is built by a small team. We're not a big company, and we're honest about being early-stage. The product is live, the safety system works, and we're improving it every week.
