Text chat with strangers, checked before it is delivered
SafeMeet is a text chat with images: you type, the other person reads, and there is no voice or video. That one design choice decides what can be checked before a message arrives.

Why a typed message can be checked first
A typed message is a few lines of text, and text can be held for a moment and read before anyone else sees it. Live audio and video cannot be held back that way: by the time anything could be checked, it has already been heard or seen, so voice and video sites mostly depend on reports after the fact.
SafeMeet has no voice or video, which is why it can check each message before delivery rather than after. That is the reason for the design, and it is also its limit: if you want to see or hear the person you are talking to, SafeMeet is not that.
What gets checked
Every message is checked before it is delivered. An instant filter blocks a short, fixed list of phrases on the spot, and an AI moderation model reads what the filter lets through. A message either check blocks is not delivered. A borderline text is still delivered, with a safety notice to its sender.
Images get the same treatment. Each one is scanned for safety before it is delivered, and an image that cannot be checked is not delivered at all; your own chat shows “Not delivered: we couldn't check this image, so it wasn't sent.” If the checks themselves are unavailable, messages stop sending rather than going out unchecked.
What text chat does not fix
Text is easier to check, not risk-free. A check can miss a message, a borderline text can still reach you, and words can be unkind without breaking any rule. You can end any chat at any time. In a chat with a person, Panic and Block sit in the chat header, and Panic ends the chat and files a report. The safety page lists what the AI still misses.
SafeMeet is also not end-to-end encrypted, because the servers have to read a message to check it. The encryption guide covers who receives a message and how long it is kept.
Who a text chat suits
Typing gives you time to think about a reply and to reread what you wrote, and it asks for no camera or microphone. That suits a first conversation with someone you do not know, and it suits practising a language: SafeMeet has chat in 15 languages, with the full list on the language pages.
Questions about text chat
Is anonymous text chat safer than video chat?
Text is easier to check before delivery, which is the main reason it can be made safer. A message can be read by a filter and an AI model before the other person sees it, while a live camera feed cannot be held back the same way. No chat is risk-free, and a borderline text message is still delivered with a safety notice to its sender.
Does SafeMeet have voice or video chat?
No. SafeMeet is text chat with images, and there is no voice or video. That is a deliberate trade: it is what lets every message be checked before the other person sees it.
Can I send pictures in a text chat on SafeMeet?
Yes. Images are scanned for safety before they are delivered, but they are not edited, so nothing inside a picture is hidden. If an image can't be checked, it isn't delivered, and your own chat says so.
Can I text chat in my own language?
Yes, in 15 languages. Once you set a language you are paired only with people whose language is the same, or who have not set one yet.
